Subject: Historic eBay prices and averages   PostPosted: Sun Sep 27, 2015 7:08 pm Reply with quote

Alright, so I simply copied and pasted a rough version of this back when Hijack this thread first came into existence, but now that a handful of other auctions have taken place, I've decided to make a new thread for it. I'm making a new thread since if this went in the eBay thread, it would get buried and forgotten about quickly (which this thread might anyway).

I haven't heard of anyone else on here keeping track of these types of things. I started making this sometime after I joined, so I would estimate that these numbers start sometime in the second half of 2011. I've probably missed some auctions as well, or disregarded smaller auctions (such as 3 packs of a set) since I didn't want to crowd my eBay watch list. However, this can still serve as a rough guide for Pirates prices on eBay over the past 4 years and going into the future.

For the first time, I've calculated the average prices for each individual listing. This is in bold after each section. I generally included punched copies or variations, but noted where I left them out for outlier reasons. Finally, the prices go in chronological order with the most recent listing at the bottom, so that first Guichuan listing at $37 was probably in 2011.

Pirates Adventure Book (one of a kind item!): $53.33

The Zeus is the most expensive 10 master, but the Guichuan and Shui Xian (especially the Guichuan) are harder to find on eBay individually. The Delusion sits in the middle, near the average 10 master price ($33.33!). I thought the Baochuan would be lower, but some of those more recent auctions above $30 have pushed her back into the SS 10 master range, though she's still the cheapest and most readily available (by far the most common). The Shui Xian and Celtic Fury have come way down in price lately, but the others (especially Zeus and Guichuan) hold their value quite well.

The Raptor Maw still commands top dollar (as much as most 10 masters), with the Chum Maker and Specter a little farther behind. Anything to do with the Jade Rebellion is still highly sought-after. I wish I had more data on the SR packs.

Overall, I was surprised to see that the early sets all had about the same average price per pack. I thought RV would be a little higher. SCS stands out at twice the original MSRP! POTC seems to hold value reasonably well, possibly because of the Disney/movie connection.

I'm also putting most of this data into a spreadsheet, and I'll post a BGG link soon. Also, that way you can play around with the numbers using some Excel magic if you feel like it. For now I just wanted the averages.

I am not sure what year it was - I am guessing 2012, so maybe it was the one you are referring to - but my in-laws went crazy about getting me a Celtic Fury and did pay over $100 for it, heh. My hands were shaking when it put it together lol.

Shocked Wow, then that confirms it! They must have been really crazy, or did they not know what it typically goes for?

Edit: The link is up!

A little of both. It was when I first started buying singles from ebay, so i really had no idea, but I told them around $50 most likely. I think they just really wanted to get it for me and there wern't many options at the time.

I saw a Baochuan for $35. A few hours later, it was gone. There was simultaneously one listed for $50.

Thanks, but I don't watch buy it now listings for this stuff. There's too much to track - this is more of a rough guide. Also, I think there are some people out there willing to pay more if they can acquire something quickly.

I can do a lot, but I can't do everything. At least we have this thread! Smile

I thought you'd want the data. Confused

I was considering jumping on it, but I'd only have Zheng He and mercenary crew for it. Rolling Eyes I didn't. Razz

Don't need this anymore! I have put ALL the eBay data I have into a Google spreadsheet that will be updated continually as I add more and more stuff to it over the years. Enjoy!

I agree! Looking at the data posted, I overpaid a bit on my USS Denver . But did well on my Constitution purchase. Both from the same seller.
