When they don't have set icons, how can you identify them?

Is there a visual guide anywhere?

Well, if you're collecting, then:

Set 1 (all 3 versions) ~ had the same 16 un-numbered islands with blank backs.
Set 2 thru 6 ~ had the same 16 un-numbered islands in each set, with 1 of 3 terrain on the back (the same in each set).
Set 7 (Mysterious Islands) ~ had 16 un-numbered islands with different effects on the front.
Set 8 (Frozen North) ~ had 16 new islands, new terrain on the backs, and started numbering the islands.
Set 9 (Ocean's Edge) ~ had 32 different numbered islands for no apparent reason.
Set 10 thru 13 ~ all had 16 numbered islands with different various art, terrain and effects changes between sets.
And finally, ~ 2 Islands were released with the word "home" on them in Scandinavia.

So if you're collecting unique English cards, you have 162 unique islands to collect to be complete.

And I can get more trivial than that! Har!

Too bad I can't find any ex-employees to answer a variety of questions we still have about the series.

Oh Well!

I actually blame the island cards for my sustained and financially painful obsession.

I can remember the moment it happened: my friend and I had just finished opening a second box of OE and then played a quick game using MI cards.

After the game we were sitting there at the table, surrouned by the flotsam and jetsam of the game--wrappers, rules, new duplicates etc. We joked about how many duplicates we both had and that we probably had several "sets" of islands. My friend wondered how many individual MI islands there were--we had never really thought about it. Then I asked how many OE islands; I knew this set was starting to number them. The first card I looked at was I25 or something. At least 25?

My friend grabbed a ziplock bag of Islands from SM and R. I started assembling all my OE islands. However many there were, I was missing I03! AAARRRGHHH!!!!! How many of this set and how many of that one??!? How many different "blank back" ones from SM??? Ugh! Why have I been randomly punching out these things? They're COLLECTABLE!!!! (I now actually play with island cards in Ultra-pro sleeves--the board actually looks pretty cool.)

And the rest is just my wandering the dark continent of obsession.

All sets had 16 different islands, except OE, which arbitrarily had 32... so an "I25" would indeed be possible in OE.

I remember how frustrating it was to have to trade islands after opening a 36 count booster box and finding yourself missing one of the 16!

Very Happy

I just tried this link and it is broken. Holofernes, do you know of any other catalog of those first 16 blank-backed islands?

Oh dear... it worked when I posted it, and is broken now.

I don't have an electronic copy of these 16 island images offhand... I hope someone does, or archived it? Anyone?
