Awesome news, considering we thought it was all done for.

Were there some rumblings that it was done? I haven't been following the WWI version at all, but the WWII version seemed to still be going along just fine with a few mini expansions within the past year or so (two of which I ordered just recently and should be getting tomorrow). Very Happy

Hopefully this does mean it keeps on going for a while - I'd love for them to finally get far enough along in the war to add the P-38.

See this message from FFG. They stop releasing Wings of War products.

The future releases and reprints of Wings of War, the game series which merges card and board game mechanisms to recreate aerial combat in the 20th Century, will be distributed in North America and other territories directly by Nexus Games, the game's publisher.

Until now, the Wings of War products were distributed in the USA and other countries by Fantasy Flight Games, which will continue to offer the current Wings of War items until its stock lasts. Nexus Games thanks Fantasy Flight Games for all these years working together with the Wings of War line.

The manufacturer of the game, Nexus Games, will now distribute directly this product range to the North American market and all other territories around the world which were previously serviced by FFG.

I think you missed this announcement

Some more (not-so-good) news about Nexus, the company that produces WoW:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/3792/rumors-about-the-demise-of-ng-international-nexus

If you scroll down and read the comments there are some glimmers of hope, though.

Roberto Di Meglio (cybernex) and Andrea Angiolino (angiolillo) both worked for the company, and Andrea in particular has a vested interest in keeping the game going with some other publisher.

That's definitely not good news. First FFG stops Wings of War, then Nexus not doing well. Things like these can mean the end of WoW.

But here's another news message from FFG. A new game X wing which sounds to me like WoW in the Star Wars Universe.

From what I understand of the situation, Nexus chose to pull out of FFG to do it themselves - FFG didn't choose to drop WoW. Not that the distinction matters much with Nexus going under.

It does sound like all of the rights to the games reverted back to their authors so getting set up with a new publisher should be relatively easy. One thing is for sure, the main designer (Andrea Angiolino) is not going to let it die without a fight.

I caught that article too. It's unlikely that it would use a movement system like either version of WoW, but it'll definitely be worth checking out.

a comment by Andrea Angiolino, Aug. 16th. 2011
Quote:
As far as the rights of WoW are concerned, NG lost them and they are back to us
authors. No company has any rights over the game now. We will most probably
decide who will be the next publisher in the next few days. It will not be FFG
for sure. You will be informed as soon as possible about the destiny of our
game. I am personally working to avoid further delays in new releases and
reprints, and to go on with a game that is 100% compatible with every item sold
up to now - out of respect for every past customer of the game.

As far as NG International (aka "Nexus") is concerned, I do not know if it has
been bought by FFG. I personally doubt so, and no public announcement has been
made. Anyway, all the people working at NG but the director (now liquidator)
have been fired, including the great staff that helped us to give WoW its actual
shape and to make it a success (good luck to them). Most of the contracts with
the authors are broken and the best sellers of the company are finding other
publishers - a new release of War of the Ring, the very best of all, has already
been annunced by a new company called Ares Games, while other authors are
evaluating several possibilities just as we are doing. I do not know if anybody
will buy NG, but it is mostly an empty box and anyway this is not relevant at
all for the destiny of the best games that this company made.

Thanks a lot for your attention and have fun with any game you like!

Andrea

Here's another comment by Andrea, from the same date:
angiolillo wrote:
In short.
The publisher, NG International, lost all rights over Wings of War. The company is winding-up and fired everyone but the liquidator.
We authors have back all the rights on the game line. Several publishers are interested, we are choosing the one that seems to guarantee the quickest time to market for new expansions and reprints of old products, and a 100% compatibility of new stuff with old one.
This may cause some delay. Sorry for that.

The good news is that the games are not dead. The bad news is that we may have to wait a while before anything new hits the shelves.

Wings of Glory formerly known as Wings of War will be published by a Ares Games, a Tuscany-based games publisher

Seems they're making a lot of progress on the new design already. There are some pictures of the new card layouts here:

This one (below) shows a direct comparison between the old and new versions. All of the information is still there, it's just positioned a little different. (Use the link above to see a larger version.)
