Subject: Review Challenge - Boring and Unnoticed   PostPosted: Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:52 pm Reply with quote

Hey All -

It's been quite awhile since I won the last review contest. I couldn't think of a good idea outside of reviewing RTSS, but since they are not in the database as of yet, I decided to go a different way.

FOr this challenge, you must review a ship (yes, it must be a ship - no crew/event/UT/fort for this one) that is not extraordinary. It's easy to sell a good ship, but you need to sell a boring one.

So, to set some rules: You cannot review any ship that:
1) Made ben's top 10 rankings here on this board.
http://www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=8675///

2) Made Cadet-Capt Mike's Top 10 lists
http://www.cke1st.com/Games/Top10Lists.htm
(yes, even his top 10 worst ships, because even those are not boring heh)

You may review a piece that has been reviewed before, but try to pick something whose review was inadequate.

The winner will be the one who sells the ship the best - make us want to use it!

You must submit your review by Monday April 10th. Hopefully we get more than 2 this time!

I'd like to participate in this and hopefully I will. My biggest issue if the boring part, since those are the ships I don't like at all. I should be able to find some that most people would consider boring, since I use such a variety of ships in general.

I've got something written, but the site is being wacky again and I'm having trouble publishing it.

Not the Shui, but Shee Ahn!

Similar to the last contest the theme is opposite of what I could do well with haha. I have a tendency to not like boring ships, so I can only do so much with them (sometimes I'd rather use a worse ship if I find it more interesting). It's also tough to sell a boring ship to anyone who plays small games and would therefore choose better ships every time.

Anyone else having trouble publishing a review? Nothing happens when I hit preview or submit, it just reloads the page.

After you copy the text, try logging out and back in, especially if it says "justloggedin" or something in the url.

Would a large ship be considered boring or unnoticed by anyone?

Got it posted. Carthage, anyone?

And it depends, xerecs. No ten or six masted ships are going to be short on reviews, are you thinking of doing an unsung five masted ship like HMS Pacificum?

The right 5 master can certainly be boring, and I am sure they are plenty that haven't been really reviewed.

This one isn't a contest entry, I think, because I already did that with Carthage above, but I want to call my new review of Le Bourbon to attention.

I was afraid of this... the MR section hasn't been super active in a while, and this MRC idea has only marginally changed that. After 5 entries in the first one, it seems that LD's absence may have cost the idea some interest it originally had. I knew I shouldn't have picked him to win a challenge/contest, but I genuinely liked his review the best. Laughing

Incentives could be an option, such as a free custom island or a deliberately lopsided trade, etc. I'm just not sure how much that would help.
