El Neptuno

Miniature text:

You may double the range of this ship's cannons each turn, but you must roll a 6 to hit.

The flagship of El Duque Rafael de Moreno y Rivera, El Neptuno is a tightly run ship. But out of their master's sight, the devout Catholic crew readily petitions the sea god to guide their cannonballs to the target.

El Neptuno
An underestimated ship, to say the least.

General description:
When I saw the first review of this ship, I was distraught. In no way is the El Neptuno a bad ship. In fact, it is a rather good ship to use to pick off pesky treasure runners from a long distance, and it costs only 12 points! Now, I encourage you to take out any old 5-master, and put two L cards and put them next to each other, and imagine that all around this ship. Pretty big, huh?

Uses:
This is primarily a support ship, and can be used as a sniper to hit pesky treasure runners as well.

Strategies and game play:
As stated before, use it as a sniper to pick off unwanted treasure runners, or to get the first hit on that 5-master so that your 5-master can take it down more easily.

Combos with other miniatures:
First and foremost, the BC LE Almirante Devante del Nero, giving you a 33% chance of hitting at L+L range. Then, put on Capitan Alarico Castro, Duque Marcus Vaccaro (BC), a cannoneer, and a captain. This now gives you two rerolls and a free space, and the chance of moving and shooting 12 times per turn! Now, I believe that there's a somewhat cheap ship that gives +1 to cannon rolls for ships within S, put that next to the Neptuno. That should be under 40 points, and that's a 50% chance of hitting at L+L range! Not so bad now, huh? Also add in FoTG to kill Mermaids.

Ways to counteract it:
Zoom in fast without getting hit too much, blast it with Mermaids, just avoid it, or kill the crew or ship giving it support.

Strengths/Pros:
The L+L range leaves you with many opportunities, the low cost, and its speed.

Weaknesses/Cons:
Its cannon rolls leave much to be desired, the crew needed to be put on make it vulnerable to Mermaids, and its low point cost interfere with crew placement.

Artwork and aesthetics:
Standard Spanish, which I particularly like.

Overall rating:
I will give the El Neptuno a 8/10.

El Neptuno's L+L range ability can only be achieved with a roll of 6 on a d6. No bonus to cannon rolls may be applied to this ability.

Actually, Piranha ruled that abilities could apply to the action, at least, the way that the El Neptuno's ability was worded.

I agree with your strategical use of this ship. I definitely was surprised to discover there is a spanish crew who gives plus one to cannons rolls against all other nations. I always found it weird that neither the English nor the Spanish had a crew with that ability. Now I find out there is a Spanish crew with that ability, and an English crew with the same special is coming out in the Mysterious Islands line. Yay! There were two ways this review could be improved. One is to improve the grammar a little. There were a few incorrect words here and there and a few mispellings. The second way is to explain all abilities mentioned in the review. A few times, you referenced a crew, and I had to independently do research to find out what that crew does. It would be better to describe the crew's ability in the review. With that said, I liked what you had to say, and I think with a little polishing, you will be writing reviews that will win review of the week. I hope the teacher side of me didn't come out too much.

I absolutely love this ship. The cannons are already awful so I never feel bad about doubling them. Plus the rest of its stats are fairly great!
