General description:
This is one of the spookiest ships in the game... the legendary Flying Dutchman! It's a beefy five-master that, while lacking in the speed department, has the best cannons possible!

This is a gunship. I repeat: a gunship. Use this to sink your opponents' ships with no mercy. Did I mention it's a gunship?

Strategies and game play:
The Broadsides Attack ability on this ship is amazing since it hits on a 2. No other ship with the Broadsides Attack ability so far has better than 3 for its cannons. Think about it... you have a 66% change of making a six-masted junk derelict with one roll! Definitely use this bad boy to engage your enemy and sink them.

Combos with other miniatures:
This ship is made to be used with Davy Jones himself. It's an expensive combo, though, at 28 points. Yikes!

Ways to counteract it:
The best way to counteract the Flying Dutchman is to run away from it, which isn't too hard considering it has a base move of S.

Successful Broadsides Attack accomplished on rolling higher than 2.

Slower then molasses uphill in January.

Artwork and aesthetics:
Like most of the "Cursed" ships it's really purdy.

Overall rating:
I give the Flying Dutchman a lowly 6 out of 10. It's got an awesome ability but it really needs good crew with multiple actions to make it effective because it's so darn slow.

You are mistaken my friend. there is another ship with broadsides abilities that has all 2 cannons. That is the HMS Bretwalda. I have done some damage with that four-master. Also, not mentioned in your list of ways to counteract the Flying Dutchman is to use a ship that cannot be shot at by L-range cannons. there are a few. Since the Flying Dutchman only has Long range cannons, this becomes a weakness. It is the same as with the Blackwatch. the lack of S-range cannons actually makes this ship a little weaker. Go figure.

I feel like perhaps the most important aspect of this ship was left out.
It's a huge target.

It's just like having the HMS Endeavour or the El Acorazado on the field. They're very deadly, and attract cannons like nothing else. Because the cursed only have four five-masted ships, and half of them are impossible to get, this ship is easy to pick out, so opponents tend to seek it out and try to sink it very quickly.

This wouldn't necessarily be a big deal, however, it's an expensive ship and even more expensive when well crewed so having to pile resources into it and around it just to keep it safe tends to be a problem.
The mentality of using this ship is tricky. It's incredible, so you wanna smash stuff. But you really, REALLY don't want to lose it. And chances our your opponent will go out of his way to sink this as fast as possible.
