Well, I think it's tea time - errr I mean high time - that the Brits earn some respect. Therefore, they have once again returned in the SEPFC contest (minus Mycron this time ). This fleet is almost more like the Pirates, as it is designed to make what is yours, mine.

HMS London: This ship is intended as an escort and fighting ship. If she finds herself up against a large ship, Captain Percival Blake will unload a 2-rank Broadsides Attack into the enemy, with a 2 in 3 chance of taking down any ship in the set. I like them odds.
In the beginning of the game, London will guard the two treasure ships as they run some gold back to my HI. Later, she will escort as they grab some from the enemy's. Her ability probably won't come into play, but if there's an opportunity...

HMS Lady Provost: L+S speed and 6 cargo space makes this ship an excellent gold-runner. And this role she will play for the first few turns. But after dumping a bunch of gold back on my HI, her ability will come into play. About the time that my opponent gets his first load of gold aboard his HI, my entire fleet will finish running gold, then turn and head for my opponent's loot. Hopefully, HMS London can protect my fleet long enough to empty the enemy HI. Shouldn't take long at 2 coins per turn. After that, we sail back acrpss the map, having ruined the work of my opponent for those turns. And if there is an opportunity, HMS London will break off and go for the enemy treasure runners.

HMS Gibraltar: This ship will perform mostly the same role as HMS Lady Provost, above. Gibraltar has less cargo but is faster. Eventually, she will be used to raise Fort Brompton at an island that still has gold on it. At that point, the game should hopefully be over.

Unique Treasures
: Letter of Marque will be useful if either of my gold-runners find it, as they will probably spend some time at the opponent's HI anyway. It is also handy to have the protection from Forts. Scurvy will not affect me as neither of my gold ships have crew on them. But I am hoping that it will hinder my opponent. And trees will be good if I know where it is and London needs some repairs. It will not be helpful to my opponent, because with a Broadside from HMS London there will be nothing for them to repair.

Counteract: Gold-running won't work in this case. No matter how much an opponent brings back, I can steal it. Therefore, fighting would be the best option. Sinking the Gibraltar and the Lady Provost is the best chance an opponent's got. But to do that, you've got to get through a S+S+S moving, 2-rank Broadsides Attack ship. Unless HMS London rolls a 1 or a 2 at an inopportune miment, this should be a relatively tough fleet to take down. Or so I hope

This is almost the exact fleet I was about to submit (so I obviously like it!). I've a feeling there may be a lot of similar fleets this time round, with slight variations. I am going to wait to cast vote until it's closer to the the end of the challenge time, but nice job. I love the London, and you really can't go wrong with either of your other choices, Gibraltar and Provost. I was trying to work in an Explorer in my version, just for that added advantage, to on on the gold runners (the Provost, she's got the hold for it). Again well done.

I was going to do the same thing. I guess it is time for a change of plans. Good Job!

Hehe. Well, can I just say I'm glad I beat you guys to the punch
Yeah I have the feeling there may be a bit of replication in this one, CC has only four nations after all.
Loving the "Well Done"s, don't forget to vote

I think its worth mentioning that if I saw your fleet group and charge my home island, I'd work on getting my fighter ready to engage the London and hopefully take out another ship before they arrive. While you could steal some of my gold, we would both have about one trip done, so while you'd be busy stealing my gold, my gold ships would be ready to drop off a second load (of 10 pieces) once you were out of sight, and getting to work on another load while you were going back, assuming the Victoire would let them go back or take too much gold. Since I have a speed advantage of L+S+L+S, I could probably get first shot and do some damage to the London quickly.

Still its a good fleet, but I just think the plan can be seen a little early, and possibly countered, depending on the fleet of your opponent.

Well, my hope is that London can take out the enemy fighter and then interdict their gold runners while I make off like a bandit. I can see that sac-captains could be a problem.
Hopefully it will work out. A little careful maneuvering can pay off. But you never know. Even if you do damage to London, a ram and then a Broadside will still take off at least three masts even if I've only got one. I know that rams aren't reliable, but since you shoot before resolving the ram then if my Broadside hits you will at most have three masts left (with a 5-master) giving my ram 50/50. Not saying you're wrong, but if you even leave one mast on the London then I can hit back hard. After that I can ram with both of my gold ships if need be and possibly take out 5 masts.

Although it is not directly a combat fleet, it would likely force that exact scenario.

I would be unhappy to see this fleet against mine, but I could give you a run with it.

My English version only had one ship different, but I have explorers in mine so it at least LOOKED like it was capable of running treasure......

Ouch. Just cause there are no Explorers doesn't mean that I can't run treasure. Besides, I'd rather steal all of yours

I have to say, I am very biased against Broadsides. I think its an ability that is not as good as it seems. Still, the London is one of the better ships for it, and since there are no reroll crew in this set to make regular shooting better, it does increase its value. Still, 67% is still a low number to risk your whole shooting turn on.

As far as home-robbing, it only works once the opposing gun ship is down or preoccupied, and I think this will do a good job. But one miss on the almighty broadsides and the London could also be toast.

I wish i had the London

Yeah, but I like to gamble, and 2 in 3 is better than most (and 5 hits is well worth it).
I wish I had the London too
