Here is my Memorial Day Challenge fleet. For the rules please see the forums:
http://www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=4490///

Since we had to have a ship with S+S+S speed with a helmsman, I chose the Peacock because it is the cheapest American ship with this speed and it has the best cannons. When the Peacock is going S+S+S+S, this is ramming speed and with the captain, she can shoot after the ramming action. Don't forget its ability that it can't be pinned. If you lose a boarding party, just elimate the helmsman, and on your next turn ram and shoot again.

As you can see the Franklin is the my gunship. It has wonderful cannons and with the captain she gets plus 1 to her cannon rolls. With Commodore Matthew Perry I can add an extra five points to my fleet. With Commander Albert Crenshaw I have all L-range cannons on my already good cannons. Also watch out Franklin is coming with her S+S+S speed with the Helmsman.

My treasure runner would be the Rattlesnake. I put a helmsman on her to help with her L speed. An explorer to help speed things up too.

Remember please vote on all Memorial Day fleets (including this one) to make this challenge interesting.

Peacock and Franklin are both solid selections (I used them in my fleet before looking at yours so I guess we thought alike ). Rattlesnake is also America's best runner so I can't fault you on that. However not including Matthew Perry so that you can spend an extra five points bolstering your fleet seems to be a bit of an oversight - unless you considered the risk of losing a ransom crew to the enemy to be too great. Why not throw him on Franklin along with a firepot specialist and upgrade the captain to Jonathan Haraden for the added reroll? Overall - great base piece selection but you could have done a little bit more with this fleet.

Good, solid fleet - I like Crenshaw's "surprise attack" ability, especially on the Franklin, moments like that make the game worth playing.

Not sure you'll get all the gold, though...
