Fleet "Baochuan"

Fleet "Baochuan"
60 Points

This is the first fleet I've built in a very long time, and also my first with pieces I don't own myself (but might end up purchasing at some point).

Having recently started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender again, I've built up a small obsession with ancient Asian culture and wanted try out the Jade Rebellion. Naturally, I had to do something with the game's first 10-master and 60 points seems like enough to make her playable. Thanks to her Treasure Ship ability, the crew don't take up any space, leaving her with a whopping 14 cargo spaces after applying all links.

Admiral Zheng He is aboard because he has to be, and offers both a pseudo-explorer ability as well as the potential to take an extra action.

Shap-'ng-Tsai's existence is two-fold: first his SAT offers a backup action should Zheng He's extra action roll fail, either of which can be rerolled by Ms. Cheng. Second he grants the ship +1 to cannon rolls against English ships. This is increased to +2 when you add Chang Pao's world-hater ability (very necessary) into the mix.

Dragon Eye's provide the move-and-shoot as well as the shanghai (treasure) ability.

Barbary Coast's preview version of Zheng Li Kwan allows a quick treasure swap should it be needed. And of course there's the obligatory Helmsman to provide extra speed.

As with any one-ship fleet, UTs like Natives and Plague will be devastating, so Jailhouse Dog is included to help combat those threats.

Mermaids is also a potential threat, so in games where Events are legal/used, Zheng Li Kwan can (and probably should) be replaced with Favor of the Gods and an Oarsman.

Finally, since Baochuan is the only ship in the fleet and the Jades don't have a fort, Paradis de la Mer can be built and will make a great outpost for her to drop off any gold she collects.

As for actually playing the fleet, I would suggest going after enemy shipping and picking up any treasure you can on the way.

I look forward to your feedback, as I would like to see what the community thinks of this build before I drop money on her crew.

Reminds me a little of this one but with different strategies.

I wouldn't recommend swapping Kwan for a captain:

quote from The Pirate Code:
-Redundant abilities on a ship will not bypass the effects of a canceller. The no-stacking rule will prevent any and all additional copies of an ability from functioning on that ship, even if their sources have not yet been revealed.

UT's can be the bane of a lot of combat-oriented fleets. Missionary or Jail would also be a big problem.

Fleets like this are a double edged sword, as your one ship can do it all, but only so much of anything at a time. If you are able to play though, this would be an exceedingly fun fleet to play. Which I can't help but think is the best way to play.

Given the importance of extra actions to a one ship fleet, I think it is justifiable to try and go for an extra action and same action to hopefully keep the Baochuan doing as much as possible. I prefered the SAC route for choice when the actions are most important, but this is another way that might work better in the long run, if you get lucky enough.

You also had the foresight to consider UTs and events which is something I didn't do. Part of that is because my brother and I generally avoid them (and in the match we played, we were teaching new players), but for a fleet like this, they can't be ignored as they can shut us down.

Certainly if you can get Zheng over to an enemy ship, then he should be a nice bonus to your fleet. Might be difficult to get that crew home for the gold if you go on the offensive, but players generally like to attack a ship like this so they'll probably come to you
