Seeing how open these rules actually turned out to be (especially with no mention of creativity being a hindrance or boon), I decided to try a counter-heavy fleet. A fleet full of tricks and traps to help battle against fleets with ships like the San Cristobal and Banshee's Cry.

Mostly fearing retribution from fast ships that can nearly always guarantee the first strike, I outfitted as many ships as possible with the cancellor ability. Most ships don't have the perfect spread of 5ish L-rank canons, let alone get the chance to line them all up, so even admirals who forsee my traps will still find their planned domination stalled, if not counterable.

I chose the USS Kettering as a fighter because she has great speed, good offense and was a great budget cost when I have limited points for crew. I also got a copy recently so I'm excited to use her, in a sense.

Lord Mycron was chosen for one reason, and that reason is the Raptor Maw. Even the Banshee's Cry has good reason to fear an attack that can come from anywhere on the board. I've seen this devastation in a game before and it is terrifying. The biggest limitation on this strategy is the set sizes of the ships included, which helps justify including it. One and two masters, which include some very frustrating pieces to play against w/o repeating them, have to really fear the Raptor Maw. Even a poor attack won't leave her overwhelmed by damage. However, if the opponents' ships are fast and/or close enough, the Raptor Maw's effectiveness can be limited, she's best used when an enemy has spread themselves too thin, or in a pinch. Three and four masted ships are risky prey because the Raptor Maw can miss too much and risk serious damage.

El Cristal del Obispo and Le Favori were chose for their abilities to take damage, or more easily ignore it, while still running a respectable gold game.

Good catch! Fixed it, the way volt had suggested before I logged back in.

Ugh, I started ignoring hostile pieces too much when I play single-nation fleets otherwise. Ah well, my mistake
